sm2

When spring and summer start to roll around I have Japanese clothing on the brain again! Cotton and linen, light colours and layers (I have pale skin and burn easily, so summer layering is my friend), it's just all so beautiful!

In January picked up some clothing magazines (I don't know what you would call them—they are a mix between a fashion magazine and a styling catalogue) from Kinokuniya Bookstore in Seattle. They were from this store called SM2, and they are quite inspiring—so inspiring I bought 4 different issues! They were all for Fall and Winter, so it just occurred to me to check for their new Spring stuff, and isn't it wonderful?

I love the detail in the accessories, and I think I'll attempt to make a similar bag—I would have bought one but they are sold out!

What has also sparked me thinking about Japan again is that our friends John and Juli (of Kitka) are off to Japan for two weeks scouting out new designers for their store, Mjölk, and meeting some favourites! I am so jealous but I can't wait to see what they come across (and blog about)! We sent them off with a great big dinner at Guu Izukaya, which they posted about here, so I won't repeat. But it was so nice, and we will definitely be going there again!

spring in my step

Woohoo! My first spring at Anthropologie, and can I just tell you how inspired I am? The clothes are also much more my style, the fabrics and colours and all (Cotton? Linen? Neutrals? Yes please.) This presents a problem though, because I want to spend my hard-earned money on clothes... Above is my wish list, below is what I have already sprung for. BEAUTIFUL gray and white stripe cotton dress.

Ahem... This is a problem. Don't worry, I'm not going to keep posting about stuff that I want all the time.

moles room

One thing that never fails to surprise me is the elaborate sets that Korean clothing brands have, and the sheer amount of images of people actually wearing the clothing there are. It makes North America seem a bit lazy I think, or at least behind. Moles Room is a Korean clothing label that has a brilliant little setup, the clothes are all very classic and simple, and the backgrounds are full of antiques and office supplies (love!). I can browse these sites for hours, though I should probably be doing more productive things...

dust

I love this Spring Collection post card from Dust Clothing.

sally scott

I just discovered Sally Scott again, and was wowed just as much as the first time. It's a clothing line that I believe is directed by Akira Minagawa, the designer of the oh-so-wonderful Minä Perhonen. I couldn't find a lot of information on the website—the only language on the site is Japanese (I know, I know, it's about time I learn it). But the photography is amazing. I remember the first time I saw the site was during the 2008 Spring and Summer collection, and I still love the idea of having the models paint a dresser. It's the most creative and yet adorable thing ever.

And the following seasons are just as pretty...

egg

Wow! I discovered a little glimpse of this store on Flickr (above image from here), and I did a little bit of sleuthing to find out more about it. It's called Egg, and it's in a converted stable in London. This could possibly be my dream store, or even one of the most beautiful stores that's ever existed... I believe it.

You probably don't know, but my dream is to open a store someday that has the same natural beauty and style as this one. I would be happy forever if a store like this was mine!

"Always an inspiration to me. The first time i was there, the main room was bordered by big leafy cabbages, with clothes in whites, creams and pale greens. Another room with a table piled with indigo colored ceramics, the clothes indigo. Another room with a table piled with chocolate brown ceramics, the clothes chocolate brown. A separate space with farm table with a row of identical handmade sterling spoons, lined up from a tiny demi-tasse spoon at one end to quite a monster at the other end."

shop please?

I've really been struggling with my urge to go shopping lately (with spring coming)! Thank god for the internet and it's ability to satiate this feeling... I cut some more hair off today (I just cut my hair last week) after having a bad hair day yesterday (stupid rain!) and desperately wanting something new for Spring. Though it was supposed to snow tomorrow and I will be so mad if it does. It's APRIL!

By the way, if you were wondering if my birthday is in April because my name is Aprile, it's not. People always ask me this, and I think April is an annoying month because: a) It's not my birthday, and b) it feels like everyone is talking to/about me but they really are just remarking about the weather, or what are planning to do this month. A reason April is a lovely month, though, is that it is supposed to be Spring! I have too many short sleeve jackets to live in this climate.

Another good reason for it to be April is that school is over! I've been absent all over the internet lately. We're visiting home at the end of this month, and I hope to steal borrow my mom's sewing machine and finally learn to sew. Then I can make my own clothes—could be cheaper, right?—and I already have plans on how to turn my current clothes into something newer and better. Oh please please please.

Also, I've been doing a lot of hand-drawn type lately. I used to find the idea of it really tedious—and that hasn't changed—but for some reason it gives me so much gratification in the end to see it finished. But of course I will never leave my stencils (somewhere above).

These pictures are from Totokaelo which I came across today on another blog I came across today (that's how I wanted to say it), a local Toronto blog called ill seen, ill said. I've been looking for sites that have the simplicity and the scarcity of colour in clothing that fits the style that I want... Oh black, brown, gray, cream, and navy how I love you. I can't wait until it's summer and we're both employed again, and then I can buy clothes or at least pay for some sewing lessons!

elli's cabinet

Oh I am so good at wasting time! Today I went window shopping (on the internet) and found this beautiful Korean clothing label, called Elli's Cabinet.

I don't know what is with me and this Asian clothing obsession, I think it started here a month or so ago. These hard to come by stores are so perfect, the clothes are so natural. Need I say more?

My favourite clothing colours being gray, brown, black, beige and navy (yes, all the neutrals all at once), I think this style suits me. Let's hope I'm cute enough to pull it off, haha.
