about me

Q: Describe your work in 10 words or less.
A: Exploring curiosities with paper and glue.

Q: What do you like to work with (magazines, photographs, vintage)? Be specific!
A: Magazines, of course, as they are the most readily available. I also like to work with vintage catalogues, tape, blueprints, instruction manuals, and cut out words. I try different materials all the time, so I'm consistently choosing new favourites.

Q: How long have you been creating collages and what made you start?
A: On a whim, I started with one collage in a sketchbook I had laying around. I made three more, then four more, then five more... It's been four years since then and I think I have found a comfortable niche here.

Q: Are you solely an artist, or do you work in another profession?
A: It would be nice, but no. I work part time in retail.

Q: Do you have any formal art training?
A: I'm currently a Graphic Design student. I hope to go into book design or art direction.

Q: Explain your favourite techniques.
A: Repetition repetition repetition. I like to collect multiple copies of free magazines or flyers that interest me and use the images multiple times in the same piece.

Q: Describe your favourite piece ever created.
A: I love the composition of the piece "Close for Comfort," it turned out so much better than I had intended. I feel it really tells a story, even though the text article accompanying the image is an unrelated article from Dwell magazine. My second favourite is "if you're craving red," because everyone who sees it in person has to touch it and say "is that more than one image?" I like it when my work almost becomes interactive.

Q: What other artists do you admire?
A: This is a tough one. My favourite childhood book was "A Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. This was most likely my first ever experience involving collage. Eduardo Recife was also one of my major inspirations, but along the way there have been so many more. I am most inspired by the less than "famous artists" that are creating collage now, many that I am interviewing for this blog. Everybody's work has some sort of exceptional quality to it that I enjoy analyzing.
