Sebastian Waters

Sebastian describes his work as trashy, and it is so in the best possible way. It was difficult for me to choose my favourites from his pretty large body of work... I love the use of typography in his gluebooks, and I am inspired by his collaborations with other artists, particularly Laura Serra (previously interviewed here)!

Name (Real or Screename): Sebastian Waters

Location (Where are you from?): Berlin, Germany

Q: Describe your work in 10 words or less.
A: (Trashy) collages in gluebooks, artworks, modern neo-dadaism.

Q: What do you like to work with (magazines, photographs, vintage)? Be specific!
A: I work with snippets and cutouts from different magazines and newspapers, made those collages with acryl colors, glue and love in my moleskine sketchbooks.

Q: How long have you been creating collages and what made you start?
A: I started creating collages in spring 2006. I got inspired by different kinds of things, like photos and other artworks from different artists or just by things I saw or experienced.

Q: Are you solely an artist, or do you work in another profession?
A: Next to my freetime hobby of creating collages I study interface design at a university here in Berlin and work as a photographer.

Q: Do you have any formal art training?
A: No, I create those collages to convey feelings and sometimes with some kind of layout I have in my mind.

Q: Explain your favourite techniques.
A: Cutting, tearing and glueing. So, basically that's it.

Q: What other artists do you admire?
A: A lot of different artists, photographers and everyone who creates or does something that inspires me and my work.

Thanks Sebastian!
