Jonas has an excellent understanding of graphic elements which shows with the text and contrast in his work. I love the method he uses with tape (which I have tried and enjoyed), and also the fact that in his moleskine he leaves full pages blank! It's very effective.

Q: Describe your work in 10 words or less.
A: Change.
Q: What do you like to work with (magazines, photographs, vintage)? Be specific!
A: I use cutouts from magazines and newspapers, as well as found paper-stuff like cards and envelopes, sticky tape, sand paper (…).
Q: How long have you been creating collages and what made you start?
A: I started a few years ago. I'm not sure what actually "made me start." There was a gluebook-project (by Patrick Beser and Sebastian Waters I think) called Logbuch. That could be one of the things that set the ball rolling.
Q: Are you solely an artist, or do you work in another profession?
A: I work freelance as a designer and I'm going to start studying communication design in october 2008. That'll be great!
Q: Do you have any formal art training?
A: No.
Q: Explain your favourite techniques.
A: Even if I don't use it that often anymore, transfering pictures/type with a sticky tape can build up nice layer-effects and transparency. Johanna, a friend of mine, told me about this technique. You choose a spot to be transferred, cover it with sticky tape and rub off the paper under water. The printing ink remains on the tape.
A: That's hard. I guess it's either she is or 316.
Q: What other artists do you admire?
A: I don't think I admire any other artists. There are many of them creating beautiful, inspiring and remarkable things. Flickr or fffound is a great source of inspiration.
Thanks Jonas!
