I found out about Amy through Design*Sponge, and I am glad I did! Her work is girly and gorgeous—textured surfaces and little birds are featured in her works. Q: Describe your work in 10 words or less.
A: Whimsical, playful, pensive and provocative.
Q: What do you like to work with (magazines, photographs, vintage)? Be specific!
A: I will use a variety of sources but mainly use vintage images from reference books, encyclopedias and mail order catalogues. I tend to gravitate to images from the 40's and 50's as they have such a innocent feel. I love working with any type of paper, graph paper, Japanese origami paper. I aso work on top of the collage with graphite, charcoal, paint and wax.
Q: How long have you been creating collages and what made you start?
A: I have making work using collage for eight years now!
A: I work as a Art Director doing graphic design for a magazine publishing company.
Q: Do you have any formal art training?
A: I went to school at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Canada. I took drawing and painting.
Q: Explain your favourite techniques.
A: I really enjoying using layers of paper with mylar on top, it gives a soft magical feeling to the work and the tooth of the mylar works so well with paint, charcoal and graphite (if you can keep it from smudging everywhere!)
Q: Describe your favourite piece ever created.
A: Right now I'd say my favourite piece is "The Fox." Its a pastoral scene with a fox near a brook. It reminds me of my childhood imagination which is something I'm always trying to capture in my work.
Q: What other artists do you admire?
A: My current favourite artists are Kiki Smith, Louise Bourgeois, Margaret Kilgallen, Shary Boyle just to name a few.
